Ishikawa Prefecture is a car-dependent society. Perhaps this is the first time I've ridden the Nanao Line since I went to Wajima as a child. Back then, the railway line extended to Wajima Station, and several diesel express trains called "Notoji" ran from Kanazawa, splitting at Anamizu, with one half continuing onto the Noto Line (between Anamizu and Takoshima). I shared a compartment with a family from Kanagawa, and we headed towards the final stop, Wajima. I even gave them a tour of Wajima city. I was a fourth-grader traveling alone, but I must have looked like a very experienced local traveler. If my memory serves me correctly, the next station name field on the station sign, which should have been blank, had "Siberia" written on it.
